How to Measure for Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Murals

Accurate measurements are critical for a successful installation. Immersive Walls murals are custom-made based on the dimensions you provide and the image section you select.

Step 1: Identify the Wall

Choose the wall where the mural will be installed. Confirm that the surface is suitable for peel-and-stick application:

• Smooth, clean, and dry

• Free of texture, peeling paint, moisture, or debris

• Newly painted walls must cure for at least 30 days

Step 2: Measure the Width

Using a tape measure, measure the full width of the wall at the widest point. Walls are rarely perfectly straight, so do not rely on a single measurement.

Step 3: Measure the Height

Measure from floor to ceiling. If the height varies, always use the tallest measurement to ensure full coverage.

Step 4: Add Extra Allowance

Add 2–3 inches to both width and height. This extra margin allows for:

• Wall irregularities

• Easier alignment

• Trimming during installation

***Do not skip this step—it helps prevent gaps or short coverage.

Step 5: Enter Measurements & Select Your Image Section

Enter your final measurements into the Immersive Walls mural calculator and select the portion of the design you want printed.
Measurements and image selection are customer-controlled and final once production begins.

Step 6: Note Wall Features

Identify windows, doors, outlets, vents, or fixtures. These are cut around during installation and should not be subtracted from your measurements.

How to Install Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper Murals

Immersive Walls murals are designed for straightforward do-it-yourself installation. Professional installation is not required, but you are free to hire an installer if you prefer.

Tools You’ll Need

• Measuring tape

• Scissors or a sharp utility knife

• Squeegee or smoothing tool

• Ladder (if needed)

Step-by-Step Installation

Prepare the Wall

Ensure the wall is clean, dry, smooth, and dust-free. If needed, wipe with a mild detergent and allow it to dry completely.

Inspect Before Installation

Before applying the mural, inspect all panels for defects. Do not install if you notice an issue—contact us immediately for assistance.

Plan the Layout

If your mural includes multiple panels, lay them out on the floor in order. This helps you understand panel sequence and artwork alignment before starting.

Start at the Top

Begin at the top corner of the wall. Peel back a small portion of the backing paper and carefully position the mural.

Peel & Apply Gradually

Slowly peel the backing downward while pressing the mural onto the wall. Avoid pulling or stretching the material.

Smooth as You Go

Use a squeegee or smoothing tool to remove air bubbles, working from the center outward. Take your time—slow application produces the best results.

Align Additional Panels

Align each new panel carefully with the previous one, matching edges and artwork. Continue the peel-and-stick process panel by panel.

Trim Excess Material

Once all panels are installed, use a sharp utility knife to trim excess material along ceilings, baseboards, and corners.

Inspect & Adjust

Step back and review your installation. Small adjustments can be made by gently peeling back and repositioning sections if needed.

Final Touch

Lightly wipe the mural with a soft, dry cloth to remove fingerprints and ensure full contact with the wall.
